Tough Loss for Bangor Women’s Rugby

In the last game for many of Bangor University Women’s Rugby players, they lost 32-0 to an experienced Aber side.
Starting well, Bangor held their own in the first half despite bringing a small squad spattered with injuries. After an unconverted Aber try, Bangor number 10 Beth Rimmer-Kent received a yellow card and a ten-minute suspension. Defending bravely only metres from their try line, Bangor held off waves of Aber attacks. A quick-tap penalty coupled with confusion to the referees decision, Aber made it 10-0 at half-time.
In the second half, Aber scored two more tries, as Bangor suffered heavy injuries to key players. Team Captain Iona Todd broke four Aber tackles to run the length of the pitch before a last ditch tackle from Aber to prevent the try, in Bangor’s best move of the game. Good hands from Aber once again saw them bearing down on the Bangor try line, with a good scramble defence denying the home team the points.

Todd was once again involved, inches away from an interception try, with a heart-breaking knocking on. More great defence from Bangor followed, with Club Captain Jess McCreery putting in tackles left, right and centre. Unfortunately, Bangor could not shut out Aber, who crossed over the line again.
The heavy scoreline does not do this Bangor team justice who played valiantly against a strong Aber squad.
